Defayes & Crettenand Humagne Blanc 2017

The colour is greenish yellow. The nose is refreshing, with mild notes of menthol accompanying white peaches, lime and some nutty undertones. In the mouth crispy, well-balanced and tasty, with an aftertaste that linger for a long while and is characterised by a hint of fennel.

Humagne Blanche is a light-skinned and fragrant grape variety reportedly grown since the 12th Century in the Valais region of Switzerland. It is a white grape variety that requires a lot of care and attention during its cultivation, being very delicate. This is the main reason behind the limited production of Humagne Blanche.

This Humagne Blanc is made by Defayes & Crettenand, one of those dedicated winegrowers that works the slopes of Valais and preserve these specialities, which would otherwise disappear from the world wine landscape. At the winery it sells for 20 CHF a bottle. A price well worth paying, both for the enjoyment the wine gives and for preserving this ancient and rare Swiss white grape variety.

To be noted that Humagne Blanche is unrelated to Humagne Rouge.
