Rayon 2019

The colour is medium straw. On the nose apricot, pear, melon, honey, and a hint of mountain herbs. In the mouth, refreshing, but not very tasty. The almond aftertaste is very discreet, but last for quite a while.

This wine is made with 100% Prié Blanc grapes by Cave Mont Blanc de Morgex et de la Salle under the denomination Vallée d’Aoste DOC Blanc de Morgex et de la Salle.

Morgex et de la Salle is the northernmost sub-region of Aosta Valley, located in the shadow of Mont Blanc.

Prié Blanc is a light-skinned grape variety grown mostly in the alpine extremes of northwest Italy’s Valle d’Aosta. The vineyards are planted between 900 and 1’200 metres above sea level, making them among the highest-elevation vineyards in continental Europe.

The phylloxera louse does not thrive in the sandy, gravelly soils at this altitude, which means that Prié Blanc is still planted, ungrafted, on its original rootstocks, unlike almost every other vitis vinifera variety in Europe.

Ampelographers consider Prié Blanc one of the oldest grape varieties in the Valle d’Aosta.

For this bottle I paid 10.95 EUR at Conad in Pont-Saint-Martin.
