Terra di Lavoro 2011

The colour is deep ruby, almost black. On the nose menthol, burnt wood, iron, mushrooms, fig, blackberries. In the mouth a solid structure, with well present tannins and a medium acidity. The aftertaste is fairly long and pleasant.

Terra di Lavoro is a blend of 80% Aglianico and 20% Piedirosso. It is made by Fattoria Galardi under the Roccamonfina IGT.

The denomination Roccamonfina IGT represents one of the most important wine areas in the Campania region of Italy. The name Roccamonfina IGT includes the provinces of Caserta and was created in 1995.

Galardi is a winery located in northwestern Campania, established in 1991. Terra di Lavoro has been developed together with Riccardo Cotarella, a respected Italian winemaker with a particular interest in reviving and enhancing wines from southern Italy. From 1994 till 2017 Terra di Lavoro has been the only label produced by the winery. Then in 2017 its little brother was born and labelled Terra di Rosso: a wine made 100% with Piedirosso grapes.

Piedirosso is an ancient, black-skinned grape variety found throughout Campania. Once upon a time it was widely planted, but went into decline. Today, the trend is slowly being reversed with producers returning to the grape, albeit predominantly as a blending partner for Aglianico. Single-variety wines made from Piedirosso tend to be deep ruby in color and full bodied with soft tannins.
