The colour is medium ruby. On the nose fruity: raspberries, strawberries and cherries. In the mouth fruity and a bit sweet. The fruity sensation continues in the aftertaste. Overall, very pleasant, but for my taste a bit too fruity.
Campo de Borja is a DO wine zone in Aragon, situated just south of the Ebro River and north of La Huecha River, not far from Zaragoza.
It is centered on Borja, a small town from which the Borgia family originates. A family that came to prominence in Italy during the Renaissance and produced two Popes.
In Borja, as in the other wine regions of Aragon, Garnacha reigns supreme. This wine is a good example, being made 100% with Grenache grapes.
Aragonia Selección Especial ages in French and American oak barrels for 8 months. It is produced by Bodegas Aragonesas, a winery founded in 1984 that has the most vineyards of any winery in the Campo de Borja DO.
This wine sells at Coop for 13.95 CHF, less than at the winery in Spain, where it sells for 16 EUR.
