Batič Pinela Selekcija 2022

The colour is pale amber. On the nose acacia honey, apricot, mango. In the mouth rather rustic, with a disturbing bitter finish. The aftertaste is short. The style is that of a natural wine.

Pinella (or Pinello) is an ancient white-wine variety indigenous to the Veneto region of Italy, where nowadays it is almost extinct, with the exception of a few hectares in the Colli Euganei hills near Padua.

Pinela is a variety that requires the right environment, due to the delicate thin skin of the grapes. The Slovenian Vipava valley climate, where Batič winery is located, suits its needs.

The 2022 Pinela Selection was harvested on 24 September from Biodynamic (Demeter certified) vineyards. The grapes were partially enriched with noble botrytis. The crushed Pinela grapes were macerated for 21 days. The wine matured in old 600 litre oak barrels.

For this bottle I paid 30 EUR at Kǒzelj Wines in Lubiana during last year late October holidays with my son. In Switzerland it sells online for 20 CHF.
