The colour is pale copper. On the nose candied orange peel, peach, apricot. In the mouth light. The aftertaste is short.
This orange wine is made with 100% Zibibbo grapes macerated for over 40 days. Only 500 bottles a year are produced.
Zibibbo’s “scientific” name is Muscat of Alexandria. As the name itself suggests, a grape variety that was already cultivated in ancient Egypt. It was brought to the Western Mediterranean by the Phoenicians and the Greeks around the 800-700 B.C. During the Roman Empire, the variety managed to make its way to Northern European regions.
Zibibbo is an aromatic grape and is pretty unique in being at the same time a table grape, a wine grape, and a raisin grape.
For this bottle I paid 15 EUR at the winery, when I visited Calabria during my Eastern Holidays.
