The colour is deep ruby. On the nose sumptuous and fruity, with plums, blackberries, and dark chocolate. In the mouth enjoyable, but without the structure you would expect from a single-varietal Cab. The finish is pleasantly fruity, although the aftertaste doesn’t last long.
Black Stallion Estate Winery is located on Silverado Trail in Napa Valley. In 1994 I spent a month living in a house on Silverado Trail, while “studying” English. I wasn’t any close to being interested in wine as I’m today, but I remember already exploring some of the main wineries, such as Mondavi and Beringer. Back then, the wine I enjoyed most was the pink White Zinfandel. This shows how little sophisticated my taste for wine was. On the other side, the Napa wine industry was not yet as developed as it is today neither.
Black Stallion Winery first vintage was the 2002. In 2010 the Estate was purchased by the Indelicato family, one of the leading family-owned wine producers in the United States, whose growing and wine making history has spanned three generations and more than 85 years. In 1924, Gaspare Indelicato, an immigrant from Sicily, planted his first vineyard in Manteca, California. Since then, the Delicato Family Vineyards has become one of the top 10 US wine suppliers, with total sales of more than 16 million cases per year.
In 2017 the Cabernet Sauvignon Limited Release Napa Valley Black Stallion 2012 was served at President Donald Trump’s inauguration dinner.
