The colour is deep ruby, with garnet reflections. On the nose black cherries, plums, black tea, cinnamon. In the mouth well structured and balanced. The tannins are velvety. The aftertaste is very pleasant but not especially long.
This wine is made in Greve in Chianti by Querciabella. The estate’s signature Super Tuscan since 1981, Camartina is a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Sangiovese. Some 18’000 bottles are produced each year.
Querciabella has been following organic viticulture since 1988, making it one of the first wineries in Italy to employ this practice. In the year 2000, the estate introduced a 100% plant‑based approach to biodynamics (no cow horns filled with manure 😊). By 2010 the conversion of all the estate’s operations to plant-based has been completed and the use of animal products are forbidden, both on the vineyards and in the cellars.
I received this bottle as a present from a friend. The same that gifted me Palafreno 2008 (www.thelovedwine.com/palafreno-2008), also made by Querciabella. The current vintage sells for 120 EUR at the winery.
