Citrus flavour like lemon and grapefruit dominates both on the nose and in the mouth. Beside the addition of some marzipan, I find the aromatic profile, as well as the tactile sensations of this wine, rather simple. Some more richness comes out in the aftertaste, where the citrus sensations linger for quite a while.
This Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore is made with 100% Verdicchio’s grapes, a white grape variety that supposedly has been cultivated in the Marche region of central Italy for hundreds of years. It may have originally migrated from Veneto, since it is genetically very similar to the Trebbiano cultivated there.
CaSal di Serra is produced by Umani Ronchi, a winery founded in 1959 by the Bianchi-Bernetti family in the hearth of the region. Nowadays the estate practices organic and sustainable agricultural methods in all of its vineyards and produces up to three million bottles every year.
Instead of paying slightly more than 10 EUR for this wine, I prefer to buy a Falanghina del Sannio or a Fiano di Avellino, both from Feudi di San Gregorio. They sell for a similar price, but have recently given me an overall more enjoyable experience.
