Villa Sparina 2017

Delicate nose of melon, peach and pineapple mixed together; accompanied by light herbal aromas. In the mouth fruity and refreshing, but not overly so. The aftertaste last for a fairly long time and recalls the melon first perceived on the nose.

Villa Sparina is probably the most widely known wine produced under the (Cortese di) Gavi DOCG denomination of Piedmont. Continue reading “Villa Sparina 2017”

Vintage Tunina 2015

On the nose ananas mixed with grapefruit welcomes you, followed by some marzipan. In the mouth well balanced, but less tasty and complex than I expected. On the other side, I find the finish very interesting: at first very discreet, but the flavour soon comes back full of fruit and it last for a long time. Continue reading “Vintage Tunina 2015”

Confine 2017

On the nose a pleasant aroma of candied fruits, accompanied by some spicy notes, which give a prickly sensation. In the mouth filling and fresh, with a flavourful finish that linger for a long aftertaste of honeyed nuts.

This white wine is made with Trebbiano di Lugana grapes around the southern edge of Lake Garda, where Lombardy and Veneto meet. Continue reading “Confine 2017”

St Michael-Eppan Müller Thurgau 2017

The nose is characterised by an inviting peach aroma. In the mouth rather light, without much neither of savour nor persistence.

Müller-Thurgau is a white wine grape variety created towards the end of the 19th Century as a crossing of Riesling and Madeleine Royale by the Swiss Dr. Herman Müller of Thurgau. Continue reading “St Michael-Eppan Müller Thurgau 2017”

Fattoria il Palagio Vernaccia di San Giminiano 2017

On the nose gentle floral aromas complemented by undertones of hazelnut and fresh herbs. In the mouth crispy and mildly astringent. The slightly bitter aftertaste is surprisingly long.

Grown in hillside vineyards surrounding the Tuscan town of San Gimignano, well known for its 14 medieval towers, the Vernaccia grapes must constitute at least 85% of the blend. Continue reading “Fattoria il Palagio Vernaccia di San Giminiano 2017”

Weingut Heinrich Mayer jr. Zeller Burglay-Felsen Spätlese 1982

The wine presents itself with a brilliant gold color and a nose of honeyed apples, alongside some diesel smell typical of aged Riesling. In the mouth light and refreshing, with lemon like acidity that leaves the mouth salivating for a while. The finish is discreet, with a sweet dried pineapple aftertaste that linger for a long time. Continue reading “Weingut Heinrich Mayer jr. Zeller Burglay-Felsen Spätlese 1982”

Le Chevalier de Sterimberg 2011

On the nose (acacia) honey, nuts and caramelized citrus aromas. In the mouth very elegant and superbly balanced. The finish is characterised by an explosion of flavours. The aftertaste is subtly discreet, but stays around for quite a while.

This Hermitage Blanc is a blend of 2/3 Marsanne and 1/3 Roussanne, both indigenous of the northern Rhône Valley. Continue reading “Le Chevalier de Sterimberg 2011”

Marqués de Riscal Limousin 2016

On the nose a nutty and herbaceous character dominates. In the mouth a slightly oxidative note reminds me of a Fino Sherry. The aftertaste is rather short and marked by an acidic sensation.

Overall this wine is less refreshing than you would expect from a varietal Verdejo. This is probably due to the fact that Limousin is a sort of special edition. Continue reading “Marqués de Riscal Limousin 2016”

Psarades Dafni 2017

The nose is characterised by herby aromas, like rosemary, pine and the signature laurel, which is called “dafni” in Greek.

The mouth is also dominated by herbal sensations, with a finish that displays the flavours of the same rosemary, pine and laurel that welcome you on the nose. The long lingering aftertaste has a savoury character and a citrus fruit background. Continue reading “Psarades Dafni 2017”
