Chateau Lafite Rothschild 2010

The colour is deep ruby. On the nose at first muted. After some time, white chocolate, cheddar, mocha, charcoal. In the mouth gripping, but elegant tannins.  This wine has a very solid structure and (hopefully) a great potential, but needs a lot more time cellaring before being able to express its full personality. Despite its youth, this wine presents a very harmonious character. The aftertaste is long.

The 2010 Lafite Rothschild is a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Merlot. Drinking it at this stage is a sin. A sin I don’t mind tough. I see it as a learning experience. I have another bottle in my cellar and I will not consider opening it before my sixtieth birthday in 2033.

In 2022 I drunk the following vintages of Chateau Lafite Rothschild: 1982, 1986, 1989, 2000, 2009, 2010.

My preference clearly goes to the iconic 1982 vintage. The best bottle of wine I ever drunk in my life!

With the exception of 1986, which was probably a not so well-kept bottle, all vintages were outstanding wines, although each one a very peculiar tasting experience.

For 2000 (93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot) and 2009 (82.5 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 17 % Merlot, 0.5 % Petit Verdot) I didn’t write a post. 2000 is earthy in character, 2009 fruity. 2009 is very inviting. 2000 stands out for its elegance.

This bottle sells at AVU for 970 CHF.
