Château Montrose 2013

Château Montrose 2013: The colour is deep ruby. On the nose green pepper and some smoke. In the mouth rather light for the kind of wine. The aftertaste is discreet and medium long.

This 2ème Cru Classé Bordeaux wine is a blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot grapes.

Climatic conditions for the 2013 vintage were difficult and they influenced the final results. Although the industry tends to defend even this mediocre vintage, by now I have tasted enough bottles of Bordeaux 2013 to regret having bought them.

The history of Château Montrose has been written in two centuries by three families of owners, before Martin and Olivier Bouygues acquired it in 2006.

Brothers Martin and Olivier Bouygues are billionaires and control over 28% of the industrial conglomerate Bouygues Group, which operates in more than 80 countries in construction, energy, telecoms and media.

I bought this wine En Primeur for 78 CHF. Nowadays it sells for around 100 CHF, a modest appreciation of 2% a year.
