This 13 years old white Bordeaux has a deep gold colour. On the nose a discreet aroma of citrus, mango and a hint of herbs. In the mouth well balanced, with a refreshing acidity. The aftertaste last for a long while, it is discreet as the aroma and is characterised by honeyed notes.
Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte is located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation of Bordeaux. The estate history is traced back to the 14th century, although the manor house was built only after the Scotsman Georges Smith bought the property in 1720. He also added his name to the name of the place: Lafitte.
Bordeaux is better known for its red wines, but as this bottle testimonies, it also produces outstanding white wines that can age as well as the reds.
Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc 2006 is a blend of 90% Sauvignon Blanc, 5% Sauvignon Gris and 5% Semillon. I tasted it with a friend that offered the bottle. Nowadays it is priced around 100 CHF. Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte produces only about 2’500 cases a year of this white Grand Vin.
