The colour is deep ruby. On the nose blackberries and black cherries (from the grapes), and vanilla and spices (from the oak). In the mouth grippy tannins that leave the mouth dry. The aftertaste is rather short.
Condado de Haza Crianza is a red wine from the Ribera del Duero region. It is made with Tempranillo grapes by a winery that belongs to Familia Fernández Rivera.
The history of Familia Fernández Rivera began with Alejandro Fernández and Esperanza Rivera in the early ‘70s, when they opened the first winery in Pesquera. In 1985 the winery attracted the attention of Robert Parker and it took off. Ten years later they opened a second winery: Contado de Haza.
Nowadays, the group is managed by the granddaughters of Esperanza and Alejandro. It comprises four wineries, a hotel and a team of more than 120 people.
This wine spends 14 months in American oak barriques. Its list price is 22.50 CHF, but it is often on sale at OTTO’S or Denner for some 40% less.
For this bottle I paid 13.30 CHF at Denner. Not my kind of wine.
