The colour is deep ruby. On the nose liquorice accompanied by earthy notes. In the mouth smooth, up to the bitterish and drying finish.
This wine is the result of a partnership between Ricardo Perez Palacios and his famous uncle Alvaro Palacios, both heirs of the wine dynasty Palacios (Remondo) of Rioja. Descendientes de J. Palacios is the name of the company that the two have formed in 1999. The name is a tribute to Ricardo’s grandfather/Alvaro’s father.
Bierzo is a relatively new wine appellation. It was accorded Denominación de Origen status in 1989. In the past few years it has experienced a surge in popularity, helped by this venture of Alvaro Palacios, who has made himself a name as winemaker in the Priorat DO.
Bierzo’s principal grape is the indigenous red variety Mencía. While Bierzo is a relatively new wine appellation, it has a wealth of very old vines, planted on extremely steep hillsides. In this respect it resembles the Priorat region.
Cooperation Wines are a special selection available only in a limited number of bottles. This wine sells at Coop for 25 CHF.
