The colour is medium gold, with a fine perlage. On the nose discrete, with sensation of cheese, almonds and candied fruits. In the mouth elegant. The aftertaste is medium long.
Cristal 2014 was made by Louis Roederer with 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay grapes. 32% of the wines were vinified in oak barrels. The dosage was 7 grams per litre. The 2014 vintage was characterised by strong contrasts in terms of climate.
Louis Roederer is one of the few Champagne houses that has remained family-owned since its founding in 1776. Champagne Louis Roederer’s greatest resource is the 242 hectares of owned vineyards at the best sites in Champagne, distributed across the three most important production areas: Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne and Côte des Blancs. Vineyard parcels are classified on average at 98% as Grand Cru and cover two-thirds of the house’s grape needs.
The jewel of the Louis Roederer house is the Cuvée Cristal. It was created in 1876 specifically for Tsar Alexander II. The grapes come exclusively from the top 10 sites in the Louis Roederer vineyards. They are classified as 100 % Grand Cru and come from vines that are at least 25 years old. For its 2014 vintage, the maison chose terroirs located mainly in Verzenay, Verzy, Beaumont-sur-Vesle, Ay, Avize, Mesnil-sur-Oger and Cramant.
