Drank this Timorasso produced by Vigneti Massa one week ago, during lunch at the restaurant Bucadiciannove by the Golf Course Ascona.
Although I’m not familiar with the vintages in the specific region, given the abundant rain drops in northern Italy in the summer 2014, I doubt that this is a very good one.
Nevertheless, this has been an enjoyable bottle. On the nose not much sensations, but in the mouth filling and pretty persistent. Too bad it has been served way too warm.
I tend to be fascinated by grape varieties that are pretty unique. Sometime they are not well known and they deserve not to be popular, given the mediocre wine they deliver. This is certainly not the case with Timorasso, a grape cultivated around Tortona (Piedmont) that produce a very agreeable white wine.
Timorasso is a very ancient grape destroyed (as many others) by phyllossera around the end of the 19th Century and only recently has been rediscovered.
I did taste this wine a few times and always enjoyed it. I would consider it more for Apero than for wine pairing and more for curiosity than for every day. I’m told it does age well.
