A refreshing white wine made with Petit and Gros Manseng grapes cultivated in one of the smallest AOC of France, around the town of Irouléguy, in the basque area of France (close to the border with Spain).
A very pleasant wine with a vibrant natural acidity. Good flavoured with a predominance of apricots and citrus notes.
I discovered Domain Abotia, both white and red, while in Biarritz during one of my special holidays with my son.
It may have been the beautiful sight of the beach of Biarritz (especially during sunset). It may have been the fact that I drank it while having a luxurious picnic dinner with my son. The fact is that I really enjoyed this wine.
I’m convinced that with most wines context matters. Sometimes even more than what is in the glass.
How many times did we really enjoy a glass of wine that when drank again in a different context didn’t seem that great anymore? It often happens with wines we taste while abroad. Home they somehow taste differently. Or when we enjoy a wine with friends. When tasted without their company, it is a completely different experience. What is in the glass is not different, “only” the context changed.
