The colour is pale yellow. On the nose citrus fruit flavours of lemon, lime and grapefruit. In the mouth very fresh and dry. The aftertaste is medium long.
This Grüner Veltliner is made by Domäne Wachau under the Wachau DAC.
Wachau is a small but important wine district on the Danube River in northern Austria. One of Austria’s most famous and respected wine regions. Despite its prominence, Wachau became the 15th DAC (Districtus Austriae Controllatus) only in 2020.
Grüner Veltliner is the signature grape of Austria, and by far the nation’s most widely planted wine grape.
Wachau Grüner Veltliner is the most iconic of all Austrian wines.
The terms Steinfeder, Federspiel and Smaragd refer to a three-tier classification developed by the region’s producers as a way of communicating the style of their wines, beyond region and grape variety. Federspiel wines are the middleweight category, with 11.5–12.5% alcohol.
I bought this bottle for 9.99 EUR at Kaufland in Stuttgard. It was among the most expensive white wines on sale.
