The colour is deep brown. On the nose mainly spices, a lot of them! It is like walking in a bazar in the Middle East, and at the same time in a cigar factory in Cuba. In the mouth very thick, velvety and savoury. On the finish coffee and chocolate that last for a very, very long aftertaste.
This sweet wine is made with 100% Pedro Ximénez, a white wine grape variety best known for its role in the sweet sherries of Jerez. PX wines, such as this one, are the best varietal expression of Pedro Ximénez.
This meditation wine was produced from the “asoleo” (sun-drying) process of Pedro Ximénez grapes to obtain a great richness in sugars. After the press, it was left to rest. Some time later, it was stored in American oak butts (500 litres barrels) for a long oxidative period of ageing. It was bottled in 2014.
This wine is produced under the Montilla-Moriles denomination of Andalusia in southern Spain, some 160km northeast and inland from Jerez de la Frontera, where Sherry is made.
In Switzerland this bottle is currently sold for 300 CHF.
