The colour is medium Ruby, turning into garnet. On the nose black cherries and prunes. In the mouth lighter than you would expect, with a slightly bitter finish. The aftertaste is medium long. Although still enjoyable, I think this wine has passed its prime.
Dròmos is made by Poggio Verrano under the Costa Toscana IGT. It is a blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 15% Alicante Bouschet, 10% Sangiovese and 5% Cabernet Franc.
Alicante Bouschet was created by viticulturalist Henri Bouschet in 1866 as a cross of Grenache and Petit Bouschet (a variety bred in the late 1820s by his father).
Costa Toscana IGT is a coastal sub-division of the Toscana IGT appellation. It was introduced in 2010 to allow producers in Tuscany’s coastal areas to differentiate their wines from those made further inland. It includes the provinces of Massa-Carrara, Lucca, Pisa, Livorno and Grosseto.
