The colour is medium garnet. On the nose meaty and earthy character, with some cherries. In the mouth rather light, but pleasant. The aftertaste is medium long and enjoyable.
I hardly drink very cheap wines, but when I saw this bottle selling at Coop for 2.60 CHF, 60% off the original price of 6.50 CHF, I couldn’t resist the temptation of tasting it.
I thought the wine wouldn’t be worth drinking and opened the bottle an evening I was cooking a risotto. This way the wine would have served at least one purpose. Maybe my expectations were overly low, but this wine surprised me positively. I still used some of it for the risotto, but the rest I drunk.
It is a generic wine labelled as Vino tinto de España. It is made with Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo grapes. No information is given about the producer, only that the wine has been bottled for Coop. I imagine it is a blend of mass-produced bulk wines.
As my wife reminded me, while travelling in Spain we often got to drink very decent house wines. Considering this, it is not that surprising that this wine makes a fairly good drink. At 2.60 CHF a bottle it offers an amazing price-quality ratio!
