The colour is medium ruby. On the nose cherries, plumbs, marzipan. In the mouth elegant, soft tannins and medium acidity. The aftertaste is fruity, while at the same time reminding of cocoa. It last for quite a while.
This wine is made with 100% tempranillo grapes by Bodegas Emilio Moro under the Ribera del Duero DO. It is the flagship wine of the winery. It is aged in 50% in French and 50% in American oak.
When in 2015 I visited Bodegas Emilio Moro in Pesquera de Duero, I was unimpressed by the wines and I left with the impression of a highly marketing oriented winery. The only reason I bought this bottle is because it was selling fir half of its price. Looking at the winery’s website, it is clear that it still relies heavily on wine-critics/points. They list 11 “providers”. On the other side, this time I appreciated the wine much more than when I first tasted it at the winery. Maybe it is the vintage, maybe I’m now better at appreciating wines. Most likely, this time I’m not disturbed by all the marketing I found at the winery, which inhibited my pleasure.
For this bottle I paid 14.90 CHF at Coop, 50% off the original price of 29.80 CHF. On the winery’s website it sells for 19.50 EUR. At 14.90 CHF this wine offers an excellent price/pleasure ratio.
