Very pleasant citrusy nose, accompanied by nutty notes. It reminds me of a weird mix of lemon and peanuts.
In the mouth, as pleasant as on the nose. Well balanced and with, for my taste, just the right amount of freshness. The finish is dominated by the same citrusy sensation perceived on the nose, which last through a fairly long aftertaste.
Although I didn’t have much expectations for this Falanghina del Sannio DOC that I bought in a supermarket in Italy for less than 9 EUR, I’m very pleased by the experience. I find it a perfect white for Apero, but it would also pair well with a white fish.
Falanghina is an ancient Italian white-grape variety of Greek origin. It is thought to be the grape behind Falerno, the most famous wine of antique Rome.
The quality of this fairly simple wine confirms once more the skills of Pierpaolo Sirch, the agronomist native of Friuli in charge of the wine production at Feudi di San Gregorio.
