The colour is medium straw. On the nose hazelnut, accompanied by mineral sensations. In the mouth fresh, with an aftertaste that reminds of the hazelnut first perceived on the nose.
This wine is made entirely with Timorasso grapes by Vigne Marina Coppi. It is dedicated to the winemaker’s grandfather: Fausto Coppi, an Italian cyclist of international fame.
Vigne Marina Coppi came into existence in 2003. The vineyard is only a few hectares and the overall production limited to about 25’000 bottles per year.
Timorasso is a white wine grape native to the Colli Tortonesi region of southeast Piedmont. It is an ancient grape variety that was on the verge of extinction, but got rescued and revived in the 1980s thanks to the commitment and devotion of Walter Massa of Vigneti Massa.
Timorasso is an aromatic variety, which can show tropical fruit in some wines and more floral notes in others. It responds well to oak maturation, which gives the wines a certain complexity, allowing them to age for several years.
Only 6’466 bottles of Fausto 2015 have been produced. I received this one as a gift. In Switzerland it sells for slightly less than 40 CHF.
