The colour is medium straw, with many bubbles appearing at pouring and then almost completely disappearing. On the nose grilled almonds, brioche and some fennel. In the mouth very fresh and citrusy. The aftertaste is long, but overly discreet.
Grand Siècle’s assemblage is based on three principles that have become immutable:
- 3 exceptional years, complementary in character.
- A blend with a majority of Chardonnay supplemented by Pinot Noir, selected among 11 of the 17 existing Grands Crus of Champagne.
- More than 10 years of ageing in the Cellars.
Grand Siècle Brut N°25 is an assemblage of the vintage years 2008 (65%), 2007 (25%) and 2006 (10%). The blend is 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir, from a selection of 9 Grands Crus: Cramant, Avize, Oger and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger for Chardonnay. Ambonnay, Bouzy, Verzy, Tours-sur-Marne and Mailly for Pinot Noir. It aged 12 years on lees. The dosage was 7 g/L.
The House of Laurent-Perrier was founded in 1812 by André Michel Pierlot, who willed his company to his cellar master, Eugene Laurent, who ran it with his wife, Mathilde Emilie Perrier. Eugénie Hortense Laurent, their daughter, inherited the House in 1925 and sold it to Marie-Louise Lanson de Nonancourt in 1939.
The de Nonancourt family retained majority ownership of the company to our days, making it one of the largest family-owned Champagne houses (Laurent-Perrier also owns the houses of Salon, De Castellane and Delamotte).
