The colour is medium yellow. On the nose nuts, apple, ananas, citrus and banana. In the mouth delicate and balanced, with an orange zest taste that lingers on the palate for a while.
Heida Veritas is made in Visperterminen under the AOC Wallis by St. Jodern Kellerei.
The vineyards of Visperterminen reach up to an altitude of 1’150 metres above sea level, which make them Europe’s highest.
Founded in 1980 by 120 members of a cooperative, nowadays St. Jodern Kellerei regroup over 500 grape growers and produces about 300’000 litres of wine a year. Heida is its flagship variety, which it vinifies in various styles and qualities.
Heida Veritas is the top wine of the winery. It is a unique white wine made from pre-phylloxera, self-rooted, ungrafted vines, which are more than 100 years old. No more than 3’000 bottles are produced every year.
For year 2019, this was the bottle nr. 2544. I bought it for 49 CHF when I visited the winery in October last year. Certainly not cheap, but worth trying.
