Herbicus 2021

The colour is deep ruby. On the nose cardamom, cumin, menthol, dried prunes and sour cherries. In the mouth a good balance between the structure of the tannin and the freshness. The aftertaste is medium long.

This Cesanese del Piglio DOCG Superiore is made by Coletti Conti with 100% Cesanese d’Affile grapes in Agnani, in the Frosinone province of Lazio, southeast of Rome.

Agnani is known as the city of popes, for having given birth to several of them and for being one of the favourite residences of the popes in the High Middle Ages. The 13th century was the golden age of the city. In one hundred years, Anagni produced four popes: Innocent III, Gregory IX, Alexander IV and Boniface VIII. The first three all members of the Conti family. The transfer of the papal court to Avignon in 1309 marked for Anagni the beginning of a long decline.

For this bottle I paid 15 EUR at Enoteca Costantini in Rome.
