The colour is pale ruby. On the nose wild strawberries, pepper and clove. In the mouth light and simple, but balanced and pleasant. The aftertaste is medium long.
This wine is made by the Institut Agricole Régional (I.A.R) of Aosta, a foundation established in 1982 to carry on the mission of the École pratique d’agriculture, an institution founded in 1951 as a vocational education and training school in the agricultural sector, managed by the Congregation of Canons of Gran San Bernardo.
This wine is made as a varietal, with 100% Cornalin d’Aoste grapes, which in Valais is named Humagne Rouge. This grape variety is considered to be the offspring of Cornalin du Valais and another (probably extinct) variety.
I drunk this bottle with my family on December 26th. It accompanied this year Pizzoccheri, a dish we have been cooking for St Stephen’s day for the last thirteen years. A tradition that was started in 2009, when my father prepared this rather heavy dish to help my wife deliver. 😊 It worked and my son was born on December 27th, 2009.
For this bottle I paid 12.40 EUR last year in Valle d’Aosta, where I stopped for an overnight during the summer vacations with my family.
