At first no much sensations, neither on the nose nor in the mouth. After some time it opens up and delivers some strawberries notes.
Overall this Pinot Noir is unappealing and the experience pretty disappointing, especially for a 50 CHF bottle.
A short search easily explains the reason of the disappointment. 2012 has been a difficult year in Burgundy and the repeated hailstorms afflicted most damage on the Côte de Beaune, with Volnay badly affected.
In the modern world etiquettes are often predominant in choosing a wine and we tend to forget that wine at its base is an agricultural product. The climatic characteristics of the vintage and the resulting quality of the grapes is the single most important aspect influencing the quality of a wine. The winemaker can fix (or ruin) what nature provides, but cannot change it completely.
