The colour is medium straw. On the nose melon, pear and almond. In the mouth velvety, with a pleasantly slightly bitter finish. Very enjoyable, with a medium long aftertaste.
This wine is made with Sylvaner grapes, known as Johannisberg in Valais. The second most widely planted white grape variety in Valais; although it lags far behind the first, which is Chasselas, called Fendant in Valais.
Silvaner is an ancient variety that has long been grown in Central Europe. It is a natural cross between Savagnin (Heida in Valais) and Österreichisch Weiss, an old Austrian variety. Its name comes from the Latin silva (meaning forest), indicating a supposedly wild origin.
Chamoson is a village of Valais with a terroir particularly favourable to this grape. To the point that 1/3 of all Johannisberg planted in Valais is cultivated in this community.
For this bottle I paid 9.95 CHF at Denner, 33% off the regular price of 14.95 CHF. On the online shop of the winery it sells for 16.00 CHF.
