The colour is medium ruby. On the nose plumbs, sour cherries, mirth, grass, wood and beeswax. In the mouth well balanced, soft and pleasantly fruity. The aftertaste is medium long.
Korem is made in Sardinia by Argiolas.
It is a blend of 85% Bovale Sardo, 10% Carignano and 5% Cannonau.
Argiolas’ history began in 1918, when Francesco Argiolas planted the first vineyard with the assistance of some returning Italian POWs. But it was his son Antonio Argiolas, who died in 2009 at the age of 102, that set the stage for greatness by buying new estates and setting up a modern farm. In the late 70’s, Antonio’s sons Franco and Giuseppe reorganized the business in all aspects, from vineyards to cellars, and they choose as consultant one of Italy’s leading oenologists: Giacomo Tachis. Known as the father of Super Tuscan wines, Giacomo Tachis, has been credited with having kickstarted Italy’s wine renaissance. For Argiolas he helped in creating Korem, based on Bovale Sardo, and the benchmark Cannonau blend Turriga.
The Argiolas family insists on using native Sardinian vines. The winery produces both a classic and a prestige line of wines. Nowadays, Argiolas produces more than 2 mio. bottles a year and has firmly established itself as one of the very top producers from Sardinia.
