The colour is deep ruby. On the nose red fruits: strawberries, raspberries and cherries. In the mouth the same fruits are perceived. The acidity is pronounced, as it is typical for Barbera based wines. The aftertaste doesn’t last long.
This wine is produced under the Barbera d’Asti Superiore DOCG by ViteColte and has been awarded Tre Bicchieri by Gambero Rosso in 2020. 2017 was also the thirtieth vintage for La Luna e i Falò: what a coincidence!
ViteColte was created to take advantage, utilizing high quality criteria, of the viticultural patrimony and experience of Terre da Vino, a historic cooperative winery in Piedmont. Terre da Vino encompass over 5’000 hectares of vineyards cultivated by over 2’500 growers. The finest part of this patrimony, with 300 hectares and 180 growers, constitutes Vite Colte, a “winery within the winery”, with a dedicated management of vineyards, fermentation and aging.
The project got underway in 2010. Every participating winegrower dedicates a proportion of its estate to the project. Altogether, ViteColte produces around 1.2 million bottles. Barbera d’Asti Superiore La Luna e i Falò is the the flagship wine of the winery.
For this bottle I paid 9.70 CHF at Coop, 33% off the original price of 14.50 CHF.
