Elegant and well balanced, as the name let you expect. On the nose red fruits, with some spicy notes. In the mouth discrete, with a pleasant acidity that follows you in the aftertaste. The high alcohol content (15%) gets completely undetected, both on the nose and in the mouth. One more sign of a well achieved equilibrium.
While travelling in the Languedoc-Roussillon region during my summer holidays last year, I often tasted Grenache based wine, but I never drank it as a single varietal wine before.
Although dominating, in the Languedoc-Roussillon region, as in the more prestigious Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC, the Grenache is generally blended with other varieties like Syrah and Mourvèdre. The same is the case across the border in Catalonia, where the Grenache tend to get combined with Syrah and Carignan.
L’Equilibrista Garnatxa 2013, Catalunya DO, is my first 100% Grenache wine. The creative label adds a visual pleasure to the experience of drinking this very enjoyable wine that’s priced around 20 CHF.
