The colour is deep ruby, almost impenetrable. On the nose prune, blackcurrant, blackberry, cinnamon, nutmeg. All soaked in spirit. In the mouth good acidity and well-integrated tannins. Maybe slightly too alcoholic. The aftertaste is medium long.
Orfeo Riserva is made under the Colli Bolognesi DOC of eastern Emilia-Romagna (Italy). The DOC was introduced in 1975 and covers both red and white wines. All wines are varietals, which must be made with at least 85% of the stated variety.
Colli Bolognesi winemakers work with a combination of native Italian and French grapes. The red wines are produced from Merlot, Barbera and Cabernet Sauvignon. Whites are based on Grechetto, Pinot Bianco, Riesling Italico, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. The area in which these wines are made lies to the south-west of Bologna, in the foothills of the Appennino Settentrionale.
Orfeo Riserva is made with 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes by Corte d’Aibo in Monteveglio. At Corte d’Aibo all grapes are cultivated and processed following strict ecological standards. This bottle is certified BIO and at the winery, which I visited last night, sells for 25 EUR.
