The colour is medium garnet. On the nose dark cherries, mocha and tea leaves. In the mouth gripping tannins. For the rest lighter than you would expect. The aftertaste is savoury and medium long.
For this wine I had high expectations. Probably too high. The result has been disappointment. A good wine, but far from great.
This Barolo is made with 100% Nebbiolo grapes by Domenico Clerico.
Clerico is one of the most respected names in Barolo. His wines are renowned both for high quality and for character. They derive from vineyards in four of the greatest crus of Monforte d’Alba.
Percristina, named after his daughter, is Clerico’s most important Barolo. The grapes come from a south exposed vineyard in the Mosconi cru. The first vintage produced was the 1995. The wine aged for 36 months in barriques and 24 months in large casks.
For this bottle I paid 90 CHF in 2016. It currently sells for 125 CHF and more.
