The colour is deep garnet. On the nose prune, fig marmellate and kirsch. In the mouth fresh, with drying tannins. The aftertaste is medium long.
This Valtellina Superiore DOCG is made by La Torre with Nebbiolo grapes. The winery is owned and run by a son of one of my grandfather’s sisters in Poschiavo.
In 2009 my wife and I gifted one bottle of this wine to each participant at our wedding, which we celebrated in Poschiavo, my place of origin. I kept one bottle for myself as a memory.
In August, while spending a few day in Poschiavo, I met my cousin and asked if the wine could still be drinkable. He told me to try it and that I could be surprised. Indeed, I’ve been very surprised and amazed by how even a simple wine can still be enjoyable after 20 years.
The current vintage of PoschiaVino sells for 17.70 CHF. Back in 2009 I probably paid a bit less.
