I knew that being a patrician of Ascona comes with some benefits, but didn’t know they also have their own label.
This Merlot del Ticino is produced by Terreni alla Maggia, a winery that growths its grapes in Ascona.
In general, I don’t find the wines produced by Terreni alla Maggia particularly appealing, but this special cuvée bottled for the Patriziato di Ascona I really enjoyed.
Probably one of the most pleasant experiences I recently had with the products of my region. The enjoyment may be enhanced by some late harvest or even appassimento.
Nose of mature (but not cooked) fruits. Soft tannins, well balanced and decent persistence. Although maybe a bit overdone, overall very pleasant.
