On the nose smell of barnyard and dairy products, at first. With time some more pleasant undergrowth notes appear. In the mouth not much beside astringency, thin and absolutely disappointing.
Maybe still too young, maybe already past its prime, maybe not a very good vintage. For sure at 150 CHF would never buy another bottle to check.
Beside this specific bottle, I personally have difficulties understanding how this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (at least 80%) and Cabernet Franc can be one of Italy’s most famous wine.
I can imagine that being the first Italian Bordeaux-style wine played a significant role. (Very) good marketing for sure helped. The fact that Bolgheri Sassicaia is the only Italian wine from a single wine estate to have its own DOC (although probably mainly part of the promotional efforts) certainly also contributed. Still, purely tasting the wine I don’t get it.
Italy is such an amazing wine producing country on its own and has such a rich variety of grapes, that I find the efforts of the Super Tuscan to copy (badly) the French pointless.
