The colour is deep garnet. On the nose cherries, blueberries, caramel, coffee. In the mouth smooth with a chocolate and toffee flavour. The aftertaste is medium long.
Sei Solo is the results of a project started in 2007 by Javier Zaccagnini, a well-known name of the Ribera del Duero wine scene. After heading the Consejo Regulador of the Apellation, he co-founded AALTO with Mariano Garcia, the winemaker at Vega Sicilia for over 30 years.
The Tempranillo grapes used to make this wine are sourced from 60+ years old vines, organically grown in La Horra, one of the best terroirs of the Ribera del Duero apellation.
Although Javier has been making wine from these grapes each year since he acquired the vineyards in 2007, it was only in 2011, after five vintages, that he felt the wine was good enough to be put on the market.
The wine that doesn’t make it into Sei Solo is marketed as Preludio de Sei Solo.
Sei Solo is named after Bach’s six solos for violin.
I first discovered about the Sei Solo project while visiting AALTO winery in 2015.
I bought this bottle back then for some 70 CHF.
