The colour is medium garnet. On the nose red cherries and thyme. In the mouth fresh and savoury. The aftertaste is pleasant and pretty long.
Ser Lapo is a Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG. The 2019 vintage was made with 90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot grapes. It matured for 12 months in 225l/500l French oak barrels (50% new).
The first document reference to Chianti as a wine production region is found in a correspondence from 16 December 1398 between Ser Lapo Mazzei, “the keen notary”, and Francesco Datini, “the merchant of Prato”.
On the upper part of the label of this wine there is a faithful reproduction of the document drawn up by Ser Lapo.
I visited Mazzei at Castello di Fonterutoli in the summer of 2020, while touring Tuscany with my son in between COVID-19 outbreaks.
This wine sells at Coop for 24.95 CHF.
