Brunello is a wine produced with 100% Sangiovese grapes. It must be aged for at least two years in oak barrels and a minimum of four months in bottle, but it cannot be marketed before January 1st of the year following the end of five years, calculated including the year of harvest. Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a special selection of wine that is aged in oak for a year more than regular Brunello wines and get to the market after six years. Brunello is a DOCG red wine that is produced exclusively within the municipality of Montalcino, in the province of Siena, Tuscany.
Founded in 1970, nowadays Siro Pacenti is considered among the best producers of Brunello. Since 2015 it uses an electronic optical sorter, which not only discards spoiled berries but can also select by weight, size or even the thickness of the skins of individual berries. Siro Pacenti ages its wines almost exclusively in barriques.
For this bottle I paid 53.50 CHF. According to my records, I bought it on April 23, 2015, exactly 7 years before the day I drunk it, on April 23, 2022. What a coincidence!
