The colour is medium gold. On the nose pleasantly perfumed, with hazelnut, banana and white peach. In the mouth aromatic, with medium acidity. The aftertaste last for quite a while.
Solaris is a hybrid white wine variety grown mainly in Baden, a wine region of Germany, where it was developed in 1975. Its parent varieties are Merzling and the functionally named Gm 6493 (a crossing of Zarya Severa and Muscat Ottonel).
Solaris is diseases resistant and ripens earlier than almost any other wine grape. The variety is used in regions noted for their cool climates and low sunshine levels. It has proved invaluable as a wine grape in Europe’s very coldest wine regions of Denmark, Norway and Sweden. The variety is also found in various parts of England, Belgium and northern Switzerland.
This exemplar is made under the Luzerner AOC.
For this bottle I paid 22.80 CHF in Lucern, at the “Getränkemarkt” of Eichhof brewery. I find it overpriced. A fact I already imagined when I bought the bottle. On the other side, to me the experience of tasting a varietal wine made with a grape I didn’t taste before, from a region I didn’t know had its own denomination, is well worth the price.
