Chateau Figeac 1982

On the nose boisé and earthy. It reminds of antique furniture and clay pot. In the mouth it still displays a good acidity, solid tannins and a decent aftertaste. Unfortunately, the overall sensory experience can be defined as fascinating and intriguing, but not really as pleasant. Neither in the bouquet nor in the savour.  Continue reading “Chateau Figeac 1982”

Cantina Terlan Lagrein 2016

On the nose, vinous with plum and sour cherry flavours. In the mouth, lean, acidic and slightly astringent, with a drying, sour finish. Not much aftertaste.

Lagrein is an ancient grape variety that is most probably native to Alto Adige, the northernmost wine producing region of Italy. It can deliver full bodied wines with a deep and dense color.  Continue reading “Cantina Terlan Lagrein 2016”

Greco di Tufo Feudi di San Gregorio 2017

Lean and clean nose, with hints of fresh green foliage. In the mouth, crispy and mineral, with a finish dominated by citrus fruits that last through a fairly long aftertaste.

Greco di Tufo is one of the three DOCG of Irpinia, in the Campania region of Italy.  Continue reading “Greco di Tufo Feudi di San Gregorio 2017”

Cuvée du Baptême 2016

The nose is dominated by an aroma of apricot. In the mouth the wine displays a velvety texture and a light, but fairly long, aftertaste of the same sweet apricot first perceived on the nose.

Overall, this Jurançon Sec produced by Cave de Gan delivers a simple but very pleasant experience. At 7 EUR a bottle in Paris it offers an attractive price-quality relationship.  Continue reading “Cuvée du Baptême 2016”

Oro Puro

On the nose this Valdobbiadene Superiore di Cartizze DOCG presents the apple and pear aroma (or white peach, depending on your point of reference) typical of Glera, the main grape variety used to produce Prosecco (at least 85% of the blend).

The apple-pear marriage is apparent in the mouth as well, where the high acidity is nicely balanced by the effervescence. Continue reading “Oro Puro”

Valdesil Godello Sobre Lias 2015

On the nose delicately perfumed, mineral-rich with citrus and herbal accents. In the mouth as elegant as on the nose, with a soft acidity and a clean, fairly long, finish. The wine has probably been enriched by the prolonged lees contact.

This varietal wine is made with Godello, a white grape variety thought to be indigenous of Galicia,  Continue reading “Valdesil Godello Sobre Lias 2015”

Marina Cvetić 2013

The aroma is filled with jammy dark fruits, especially plum, accompanied by some earthy notes. Once in the mouth, the wine has a considerably lighter body and is remarkably less filling than you would expect. The finish is drying and a bit bitter, in clear contrast with the first impression given by the sweet, fruity sensations perceived on the nose. The aftertaste is long, but not particularly appealing.  Continue reading “Marina Cvetić 2013”

Nouvelère 2010

On the nose a well achieved mix of dark fruits and spices. With some air licorice, black olives and herbal notes become more apparent. After a while, the black fruits come back reinforced, but only to fade away and reappear later on. In the mouth, the tannins are still very gripping. At first, this Syrah is less filling than you would expect and with a finish that is a bit abrupt. Continue reading “Nouvelère 2010”

Fiano di Avellino Feudi di San Gregorio 2016

On the nose, an aroma market by citrus fruits, floral and mineral flavours.

In the mouth very refreshing, with the citrus notes and the flint perceived on the nose resurfacing. In the fairly long aftertaste, after the lively acidity fade, I’m left with a taste that reminds me of chamomile.  Continue reading “Fiano di Avellino Feudi di San Gregorio 2016”
