Heida Fleur du Rhône 2019

The colour is medium straw. On the nose nuts, pineapple, peach, quince, honey and jasmine tea. In the mouth refreshing, with a pleasant sapidity on the finish. The aftertaste is pretty long.

I bought this bottle to complete a set of four wines that I’ve decided to present at a wine tasting I’ll host for the CFA Society Switzerland in December. Since I resigned from Credit Suisse and started my own company more than two years ago, I often thought about guiding a wine tasting, but so far I never did it. Gagliasso Rocche dell’Annunziata 2015

The colour is pale garnet. On the nose very ripe fruits, plum and cappuccino. It reminds of a Tawny Port. In the mouth well integrated but still gripping tannins. The aftertaste is disappointingly short.

Rocche dell’Annunziata is one of the most historic and renowned Nebbiolo vineyards in La Morra. Its importance is also shown by the fact that many great producers have vines in this cru. Continue reading “Gagliasso Rocche dell’Annunziata 2015”

Carema 2017

The colour is pale garnet. On the nose rose, raspberry and cinnamon. In the mouth, soft, discreet, light. The aftertaste reminds of strawberries, but doesn’t last long. Overall, pleasant but not very fulfilling.

The village of Carema lies in a valley northwest of Piedmont and marks the divide between Piedmont and the Aosta Valley. The backdrop to the village is a spectacular expanse of vineyards clinging onto rocky slopes. Continue reading “Carema 2017”

Grosjean Fumin 2018

The colour is deep ruby. On the nose peanuts, black pepper, curry, and blackberries. A unique aroma that I find interesting. In the mouth well balanced, with an aftertaste that last for a while, although not very savoury.

This wine is made with 100% Fumin grapes by Grosjean winery in Valle d’Aosta. Continue reading “Grosjean Fumin 2018”

Vignamorello 2019

The colour is deep ruby. On the nose, aroma of ripe amarena, blueberries and plums. In the mouth, bitter and astringent, a remarkable contrast to the intensely fruity nose. The aftertaste is rather short.

Gutturnio is a DOC of the hilly vineyards south of Piacenza, in western Emilia-Romagna. Barbera must account for 55-70% of the blend, with the lesser known Croatina contributing 30-45%. Continue reading “Vignamorello 2019”

Le Dix de Los Vascos 2016

The colour is deep ruby. The nose is dominated by tobacco leafs, cinnamon and nutmeg, with notes of saffron, cedar, and coffee. In the mouth the tannins are pleasant, but with a bitter finish. The aftertaste is not very long.

This wine was created in 1999 to commemorate the 10 years of Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite)’s work in Chile. Le Dix de Los Vascos originates from 70-year-old vines located in the terroir known as “El Fraile” of Colchagua Valley in Chile. Continue reading “Le Dix de Los Vascos 2016”

L’Albereta Riserva 2017

The colour is medium straw. On the nose strong notes of butter and vanilla. For my taste a bit too similar to a Californian Chardonnay. In the mouth very fresh. The aftertaste is short. This is a wine that promises a lot on the nose but delivers little in the mouth.

I bought this bottle in San Giminiano, at the same shop where last year I purchased the bottle of Carato 2016 produced by Montenidoli that exited me (www.thelovedwine.com/carato-2016). Continue reading “L’Albereta Riserva 2017”

C’era una volta… 2019

Another simple and fruity wine, like most I have been drinking during my wandering on the Via Francigena in Lombardy and Emilia. Wines that are better drunk than talked about. Mostly cheap, but nevertheless enjoyable. Like this Buttafuoco dell’Oltrepò Pavese DOC that I bought at a Supermarket for 3.99 EUR. An easy to drink wine that paired well with the sandwich filled with rolled bacon I had for lunch. Continue reading “C’era una volta… 2019”

La Valorosa 2018

A simple and fruity wine that I think is more suitable for immediate enjoyment than overdone analysis. For this wine I therefore avoid writing tasting notes. Enough to say that I enjoyed it in its simplicity. Maybe that’s how wine should be: just fermented juice.

This Gutturnio Frizzante is a blend of Barbera and Bonarda produced by Cantina Manzini under the denomination Gutturnio DOC. Continue reading “La Valorosa 2018”

Wines >100 CHF

Wines >100 CHF: Last month I organised a blind tasting of wines that sells between 100 CHF and 150 CHF.

The six wines we tasted were freely picked by the participants to the event. We usually taste completely blind, without even knowing the wines we are tasting. This time we decided to announce the wines beforehand. Continue reading “Wines >100 CHF”
