The wine presents itself with a brilliant gold color and a nose of honeyed apples, alongside some diesel smell typical of aged Riesling. In the mouth light and refreshing, with lemon like acidity that leaves the mouth salivating for a while. The finish is discreet, with a sweet dried pineapple aftertaste that linger for a long time. Gran Vin du Domaine L’Ostal Cazes 2012
On the nose black cherries, liquorice and black pepper, which gives a slightly prickly sensation. In the moth well balanced and consistent with the nose. Fairly long finish, but lighter than expected, with an earthy character.
This wine is produced under the Minervois La Livinière red wine appellation by the Domaine L’Ostal Cazes. Continue reading “Gran Vin du Domaine L’Ostal Cazes 2012”
Le Chevalier de Sterimberg 2011
On the nose (acacia) honey, nuts and caramelized citrus aromas. In the mouth very elegant and superbly balanced. The finish is characterised by an explosion of flavours. The aftertaste is subtly discreet, but stays around for quite a while.
This Hermitage Blanc is a blend of 2/3 Marsanne and 1/3 Roussanne, both indigenous of the northern Rhône Valley. Continue reading “Le Chevalier de Sterimberg 2011”
Muga Seleccíon Especial 2011
Although they are very subtle, the milky nuances typical of Rioja wines are the first aroma I detect on the nose. The fruit is a bit lacking, with burnt notes, hints of spices and licorice (another trademark of Tempranillo based wines) coming forward.
Once in the mouth the wine pleases you from the first sip. Tasty and fresh, with an agreeable mouthfeel, thanks to well integrated tannins. Continue reading “Muga Seleccíon Especial 2011”
Opus One 1989
Despite its 29 years, this bottle is still very lively, starting from the brilliant color. At first the nose is boisé, with some plum. After it gets some air, chocolate and a richer variety of fruits come out. The finish is tasty, although at first a bit rough and dry. Given the age, the aftertaste is still fairly long. Continue reading “Opus One 1989”
Falanghina del Sannio Feudi di San Gregorio 2017
Very pleasant citrusy nose, accompanied by nutty notes. It reminds me of a weird mix of lemon and peanuts.
In the mouth, as pleasant as on the nose. Well balanced and with, for my taste, just the right amount of freshness. The finish is dominated by the same citrusy sensation perceived on the nose, which last through a fairly long aftertaste. Continue reading “Falanghina del Sannio Feudi di San Gregorio 2017”
Les Clefs d’Or 2013
On the nose at first kind of prickly, with herbs and spices dominating the aroma. Among them anise and eucalyptus. With some air, red cherry fruit and liquorice come forward and the sensation get smoother.
In the mouth sort of masculine as on the nose, Continue reading “Les Clefs d’Or 2013”
Livio Felluga Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso 2012
On the nose, the first impression is of very ripe fruits. A bit more in the back and coming forward with some aeration, are peppery spices and dry meat aromas, which nicely complements the plums flavour. Overall a rich and pleasant experience.
Once in the mouth, the wine gets lighter and displays a good minerality. The finish is dominated by acidity and astringency/bitterness on the palate. Continue reading “Livio Felluga Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso 2012”
Clos Des Forêts Saint Georges 2009
Seductive and sophisticated bouquet of forest floor, earth, eucalyptus, mushrooms and some strawberries. Overall a very nice aromatic complexity. (On a bit less poetic tone: at first it did remind me of cola.)
In the mouth as elegant as on the nose. Light and full, old and young at the same time. Subtle flavours of cherries, strawberries and bees wax. Continue reading “Clos Des Forêts Saint Georges 2009”
Serpico 2012
On the nose a nice aroma of ripe/under spirit fruits, complemented by herbs, liquorice and tobacco notes. In the mouth a bit rough, due to the prickly tannins. A nice contrast to the sweet olfactory sensations. The aftertaste is drying, a bit bitter and, considering the overall experience, a little anticlimactic. Continue reading “Serpico 2012”
