The colour is gradually turning into garnet, but still deep ruby and bright. On the nose dark chocolate, coffee, gravel, graphite, and much more. The list could go on forever, since, as it is often the case with a well stored old wine of this standing, the experience keeps changing. Sperss 2014

The colour is medium garnet. On the nose very elegant. Strawberries, rose petals and mushrooms come to mind. In the mouth smooth, with well integrated tannins. The aftertaste is subtle and medium long.

I’m generally not a big fan of Barolo wines, which I usually find overpriced for the pleasure they deliver, but I have to say that this Barolo of Gaja is a noteworthy exception, which I greatly enjoyed. Continue reading “Sperss 2014”

L’extravertie 2018

The colour is medium straw, with a fine and very persistent perlage. On the nose very expressive, with bread crust and grapefruit notes. In the mouth very savoury. The aftertaste last for a while.

This Champagne Grand Cru Blanc De Blancs Extra Brut is made by Pertois-Lebrun with Chardonnay grapes from Cramant, Le Mesnil-Sur-Oger, Chouilly, Oger, Oiry. It was bottled in 2019 and degorgé in 2022. It therefore spent 3 years on the lees. The dosage is a low 4.5 g/L. Continue reading “L’extravertie 2018”

The colour is deep garnet. On the nose kirsch, prunes, espresso. In the mouth very juicy. The savour is delicious and the aftertaste last for quite a while.

Femme de Champagne 2002

The colour is medium gold, with a fine perlage. On the nose floral, with oxidative and caramelised notes. In the mouth very tasty and elegant. The taste and the very long aftertaste remind of dry sherry.

Dom Pérignon Plénitude P2 2004

The colour is medium gold, with a fine perlage. On the nose citrusy notes of pink grapefruit, blood oranges, peaches, pastry cream, buttered toast. In the mouth elegant, very tasty, charming and succulent. The aftertaste is long.

Clos des Goisses 2009

The colour is medium gold, with a fine perlage. On the nose complex, with spicy, toasted notes. In the mouth very tasty and elegant. The aftertaste is medium long.

Philipponnat’s Clos des Goisses 2009 is a blend dominated by Pinot Noir (61%) and complemented by Chardonnay (39%). The wine has been partially vinified in wood (37%) and spent 8 years on the lees. This Champagne has a low dosage of 4.5 g/L. Continue reading “Clos des Goisses 2009”

Amarone Riserva Quintarelli 2003

The colour is deep garnet. On the nose liquorice, tea leaves, black cherries, plumbs, chocolate. In the mouth filling, with a solid structure. Dense and concentrated. The aftertaste is very long.

Amarone Riserva Quintarelli is a blend of 55% Corvina, Croatina, Rondinella and Nebbiolo, 30% Sangiovese and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. After manual harvests, the grapes were placed on wooden crates in a well-aerated room. Continue reading “Amarone Riserva Quintarelli 2003”

Dom Ruinart 2009

The colour is pale gold, with fine, long-lasting bubbles. On the nose very elegant, with aroma of flowers, passion fruits, lemon. In the mouth tasty and lively. On the finish an explosion of savours, mainly almonds, and a discreet sapidity. The aftertaste last for a very long time.

Tolérance

The colour is medium copper, with fine, persistent bubbles. On the nose bread crust, marzipan and blood oranges. In the mouth this Champagne strongly recall the blood oranges first detected on the nose. The aftertaste is delicious and last for a pleasant while.
