The colour is deep ruby and cloudy. The nose reveals some of the imperfections typical of natural wines. In the mouth acidic and drying. The aftertaste is rather short. With some air, both aroma and taste improve, but overall this is not a very pleasant wine, as it is often the case with red natural wines (according to my experience so far). Antares 2014
The colour is medium garnet. On the nose prunes, blueberries and meat. In the mouth light, but well balanced and still pleasant to drink. The aftertaste is medium long.
This wine is a blend of 60% Avgoustiatis and 40% Mourvedre grapes. Avgoustiatis is a little-known red wine grape variety found scattered around the Greek islands (most notably on Zakynthos) and the Peloponnese peninsula. The variety ripens relatively early in the growing season, typically in August. Continue reading “Antares 2014”
Psarades Dafni 2017
The nose is characterised by herby aromas, like rosemary, pine and the signature laurel, which is called “dafni” in Greek.
The mouth is also dominated by herbal sensations, with a finish that displays the flavours of the same rosemary, pine and laurel that welcome you on the nose. The long lingering aftertaste has a savoury character and a citrus fruit background. Continue reading “Psarades Dafni 2017”
Domaine Paterianakis 2014
On the nose at first meaty, but after a while some cherries and menthol notes come forward. In the mouth smooth and well balanced. The finish leans toward dry fruits. The aftertaste is pleasant, although it doesn’t last very long.

On the nose pleasant aroma of peach and lime, with a freshness that continues in the mouth, where it finishes with a flavour of green apple. No much aftertaste, beside the refreshing sensation.
This wine is made 100% with Vidiano, an ancient white grape variety indigenous of Crete that some years ago almost got extinguished. Continue reading “Vorinos White 2016”

On the nose it displays mild aromas of melon, mandarin and banana. In the mouth light, but balanced, with an agreeable finish. The aftertaste is very discrete, with the melon, the mandarin and the banana coming back to say goodbye.
This wine is made 100% with Vilana, a white grape variety grown primarily in the island of Crete, the southernmost of Greece. Continue reading “Boutari Kretikos White 2017”
Orgion 2015
30 July 2017
Intense nose of spices, pleasant bitterness in the mouth and a good aftertaste. The oak is well integrated and the tannins are already fairly smooth.
A wine made with 100% Mavrodaphne of Cephalonia grapes, also used to produce a well-regarded sweet wine. Continue reading “Orgion 2015”

23 July 2017
Brilliant golden colour, aroma of peach, brioche and hints of vanilla. A wine rich in flavours and good in length.
This is the Viognier I mentioned in my previous post. In the meantime, I enjoyed another bottle, which confirmed the first impression. Continue reading “Coma Berenices 2016”
