Gurnzan 2017

The colour is pale ruby. The nose is dominated by red fruits: raspberries, strawberries and cherries, with some dried roses. In the mouth smooth and pleasant. It is a shame that the aftertaste doesn’t last longer.

Quater Vitis Bianco 2017

The colour is yellow pale. On the nose this white wine displays a mild aroma with an herbal character of pine, rosemary and sage, accompanied by citrusy undertones. In the mouth refreshing with a nutty aftertaste.

This Terre Siciliane IGT produced by Firriato is the result of blending four white grape varieties typical of Sicily: Inzolia, Carricante, Catarratto and Zibibbo. Each representing 25% of the blend. Continue reading “Quater Vitis Bianco 2017”

Jasci Pecorino Bio 2017

The colour is pale straw. On the nose jasmine and linden mixed with ananas and a bit of liquorice. In the mouth more filling than you would expect at the first sight. Crispy and fresh, with a drying/prickly finish, which to me spoils a bit the overall enjoyment. On the other side, it pairs well with some charcuterie.

Superiore Riserva Teroldego Rotaliano 2015

The colour is deep ruby. On the nose light notes of cherry, but with a background that doesn’t feel right. In the mouth more present, although a bit rustic, with good acidity and a drying finish that last for a while. Usually, wines tend to be richer on the nose than in the mouth. Interestingly, in this case it is the opposite.

Kerner della Valle Isarco 2018

Kerner della Valle Isarco 2018: This white wine displays a medium straw colour. On the nose the aroma is dominated by pear, although apple and citrus can also by detected. In the mouth the wine is well balanced, with a refreshing aromaticity that last for a satisfying while. Granbussia 1974

Granbussia 1974: This bottle, made one year after I was born, is among those that make it worth the multiple disappointments anybody brave enough to keep experimenting with very old wines necessarily goes through.

Canova NV

This Lambrusco presents itself with its typical deep purple colour and a delicate foam. On the nose the wine is vinous, with wild strawberries, fresh plums and pomegranate. In the mouth the palate is welcomed by a pleasant effervescence and left with a drying, slightly bitter sensation. A wine that pair well with the local charcuterie. Continue reading “Canova NV”

Blangé 2017

The appearance is very clear, with a pale straw colour. At pouring the wine is slightly bubbly. On the nose the aroma is delicate, floral with some citrus and stone minerality, and a hint of hazelnut. In the mouth dry, with a pronounced acidity. Well balanced, with a subtle taste that last for a fairly long time.

Vigna Truss 2006

On the eyes the wine has a deep garnet colour. On the nose the flavour is very intense and, despite the 13 years, surprisingly fruity, with prune, black cherry and some cocoa. In the mouth very dry and raw. The finish is bitter and short. An interesting contrast to the opulence displayed to the eyes and to the nose. Continue reading “Vigna Truss 2006”

Argentiera 2009

The nose is rich of plums and dark cherries. Inviting, but devoid of any complexity, a feature that I would expect from a 10 years old Bordeaux. In the mouth and in the finish not much, beside a hint to the fruits perceived on the nose, the drying sensation of the tannins and some burning from the 14.5% alcohol. Overall a fine wine, but not much to enjoy for the 55 CHF I paid four years ago at Chiodi Ascona. Continue reading “Argentiera 2009”
