Radici 2011

Deep ruby red to the eyes. Rich, ripe and intense on the nose, with notes of black berries and spices. Nice and fascinating complexity, with the fruit that keeps hiding and showing up discretely. In the mouth elegant, but less filling than you could expect. Earthy, mineral sensations dominate. Firm yet rounded tannins and nice acidity. The aftertaste gets a bit cut off.  Continue reading “Radici 2011”

Cuvée Barcelona 1872

On the nose I can detect some pears and apple, but not much and not much more. In the mouth the wine quickly disappears. It lacks freshness and seems exhausted. I wonder if something is wrong with the specific bottle. On the other side, the couple of Cava I tried in the past didn’t impress me neither. The wine sells at Coop for 15 CHF.  Continue reading “Cuvée Barcelona 1872”

Ferrari Brut

Bread crust, Golden apple and Mineral. Very fresh, both on the nose and in the mouth, where it is dry and savoury, tastes almond and leaves a citrusy aftertaste. Maybe a bit too much acidity for my taste, but overall a pleasant sparkling wine.

This Trento DOC is made entirely with Chardonnay grapes, Continue reading “Ferrari Brut”

Château la Tour Carnet 2013

The nose is dominated by smoky notes. In the mouth the wood overpowers with disturbing tannins, that accompanies you till the end and leaves you with a dry feeling. With later sips some fruit come forward, but overall the wine is overshadowed by the oak. Continue reading “Château la Tour Carnet 2013”

Gaudium Magnum 2011

25 December 2017

The trademark cherry aroma of the Barbera grape shows up in the underground and is not overpowered neither by the high alcohol content (15.5%) nor by the almost three years in barrel.

In the mouth less powerful than you would expect. More a sign of a well made wine than a lack of anything. Continue reading “Gaudium Magnum 2011”

Clos Triguedina 2013

13 December 2017

This traditional Cahors, is a blend of Malbec (85%), Merlot (13%) and Tannat (2%).

Although it is now the iconic grape variety of Argentina, Malbec is native to this region of southwestern France. In the AOC Cahors wines, Malbec must constitute at least 70 percent of the blend. Continue reading “Clos Triguedina 2013”

Frappato COS 2015

6 December 2017

Light, Pinot like, but cloudy, color. Grapey aroma, with some disturbing barnyard. In the mouth light bodied and not very pleasant.

Seems like the producer is a well-regarded one. There must therefore be a good reason why in the only DOCG of Sicily (Cerasuolo di Vittoria) Frappato gets blended with a majority of Nero d’Avola. Continue reading “Frappato COS 2015”

Amigne de Vétroz 2016

29 November 2017

Amigne is a very old variety and is thought to have been introduced into the Alps by the Romans. It is one of the many indigenous grape varieties of the Valais region of Switzerland.

Valais account for a third of the total wine production of Switzerland and displays a vast richness of indigenous grapes. Continue reading “Amigne de Vétroz 2016”
